Characterising the high temperature tensile behaviour of laser powder bed fused duplex stainless steel 2205 using the small punch test

Duplex stainless steels (DSS) are a family of steel alloys that benefit from the presence two relatively equally proportioned phases, ferrite and austenite. The designed to have an enhanced resistance corrosion superior strength properties in comparison more common such as 316 L. Design engineers now exploring introduction additively manufactured (AM) DSS into industrial components, these capabilities provided by alloy greater flexibility design offered AM. This research focuses on mechanical microstructural characterisation 2205, AM process laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Results been generated through both uniaxial tensile testing small punch (SP) built heat-treated conditions, across range temperatures up 750 °C. Microstructural assessments conducted using advanced microscopy determine relevant phase distributions texture morphologies present materials, understand how this influences performance.
